have recently bought a Ruger Mini-14 in stainless steel.
I recognize that there were/are "Stainless mags" available but are they truly stainless steel ore nickel plated?
For instance the John Masen Company sells nickel plated.
Thank you.

Oringal Ruger mags are quite pricey now, but are getting cheaper now. Mansen and PMI mags are pretty good after market mags. Avoid USA and Pro Mags, POS. Ruger Mansen and PMI mags that are sold as Stainless are Stainless. If they say Nickel most are but they tend to flake after awhile.

I've also had luck with the Ramline mags - some folks don't like them but all 6 I've used work every time. The plastic seems vulnurable - but they were dirt cheap at $10 a piece.

I also hear that Thermold mags are great.

Ruger and PMI are the best - they work every time, look good, and they are sturdy.

Check out fourfourmag.com.

Have fun,

Joe

PMI's work great... stick with 20 rounders over 30's. Factory Ruger Hi-Caps are harder to find and pricey.

Get a heat shield.

And don't expect accuracy once the barrel's hot (2 rounds).

Don't get me wrong, I love my Mini. But there's a reason Ruger ships 5-round magazines, and it's not just political correctness.
