Does anyone know if there is a replacement firing pin spring that is stronger or if I should get a new ruger factory one? Surplus ammo never would fire right, so we don't shoot it out of this rifle. However, some remington and winchester has failed to go off, the firing pin leaving a small imprint on the primer. This rifle isn't a range toy, its my Dad's deer rifle, so reliability is important here. Any help appreciated, thanks.

I don't know how old you Mini is, but the first thing I would do is contact Ruger.
There is a link somewhere on shooting Mil-surplus .556 (NATO) out of a rifle marked .223. I would find that and read before shooting anymore

Yes , the Wolf extra power hammer spring for the mini 30 . ASI carries them as well as Brownells i do believe . Sorry dont have a part # for you .

It states in the owners manual that Ruger deems it OK to shoot 5.56 in thier Mini 14 223 chambered rifle , Exept for the Target model where it is not . Tighter headspacing in these units

I apologize, I missed the caliber, my bad. That's what happens when I read but don't read.
My wife says I do that when we talk, it's call selective reading/listening. LOL

Why not degrease your mini-thirty's bolt with a good degreaser or brake cleaner, let dry and relube. Maybe your problem is a stickly firing pin from gummed up lube. It's cheaper than replacing your firing pin.

It's been degreased, the rifle does not have this problem everytime I go to shoot it, its rather random.

I installed one and it didn't help with my light strikes. Mine came from Midway.

Here's a thread that discusses the firing pin problem and an aftermarket version by Glend Arms. The OP is looking into a offering a stiffer one. http://perfectunion.com/vb/showthread.php?t=76458

I'd contact Ruger and have some shallow indented primers for proof. They don't seem to like anyone but them working on FPs anyway.
