I hope somebody can answer this question: I have a Ruger Old Army but want to replace the rosewood grip. Not too many replaceable grips are out there. Is the ruger old army grip compatible with the single action ruger revolvers grips?
Thanks.

I regularly swap Eagle gunfighter grips between my Ruger Vaqueros and my Ruger Old Army revolvers. The fit is not perfect on either, but they do fit well with a slight overhang. I like the gunfighter grips for the checkering and for being thinner. Mine are made of walnut. They also make them out of other materials too. They hold up extremly well and come with new screws. Price around $50-60 depending on where you buy them. :)

thanks for the reply. i like the stock rosewood grips but i find them a little too slippery for comfort.

I purchaced a set of pearl grips for my old army...Ajax Grips was the maker. The fit was pretty good, with very little overhang...

I bought blackhawk fake ivory at a gun show cheap for my Old Army. It had the slight overhang to it, too, and I took it off with a dremel too. Can't tell, now.

I also had a set of Pachmayr Signature blackhawk grips on my stainless Old Army before it got ripped off. I wanted the rubber on it because I would bring it home and pop it in the dishwasher for cleaning. With the rubber, I didn't have to pull the grips off. Of course, if my current Old Army, those plastic fake ivory grips could do the same thing. Jeez, I want another stainless gun. :(

My OLD ARMY is a stainless model that dates 1985...After polishing with i little Metal Magic, It shines like a nickel Colt, And those pearl grips look great on it! I am also suprized to find the grips are not slippery at all...:scrutiny:

Check out dixiegunworks.com. I ordered a set of their Indian rosewood chequered grips for my stainless ROA. They fit very well and there is just the slightest overhang in places but so small I won't risk damaging the finish to trim them. They offer a much better grip and my hand doesn't slip as it used to with the factory panels.

I also fitted a set of Ampco beryllium nipples from the same supplier. They take a standard nipple key and have a very small flash-hole so fine powder doesn't fall through as is apt to happen with the factory nipple.

Tight Wad ;)

I recently bought a Hogue rubber grip for my old army. It now feels more secure in my hand. And the finger grips gives me a natural point of aim hold on the revolver. Glad I got it.
