Hi,
New here and thinking of getting a second .45 ACP, something that'll serve as an under-the-seat-of-the-truck gun. Want something that's reliable and not picky about ammo. Good accuracy would be nice but my Dan Wesson Patriot delivers in that dept. I will probably run some steel cased Wolf through it, so it should be tough enough for that.

The P345 looks pretty good and I've heard they're not as chunky as my departed P95. Have they been reliable? Any recalls, known issues, horror stories, or kabooms? Do they deliver reasonable accuracy? Does anyone carry a P345 concealed? They've been out long enough to develop a track record, so I'm wondering what it is.

I know, I know,....spend the extra money and get a Glock, an XD or an M&P. Yeah, nice guns...and I'd probably treat them like nice guns and they'd end up spending most of their time in the safe with the Dan Wesson.

Sorry if this has already been covered. My attempt at using search returned more than I could read and little that answered my questions.

My P345 was very accurate, but I bought it to carry and found it a little big, so it got traded off. If you keep them oiled up, they opperate just fine. The recoil spring set up is very light, with a heavy damper spring to slow down the slide, the result is a very, very soft shooting 45:) The downside is the lack of, return to battery, spring force. If you let it run dry, it will start giving you chambering issues, and if you reload, you will have to chase your brass a good 25' or more. I love the feel of the gun, it just becomes part of your hand:)

I recently bought a used one for $350, in the box, with two mags, the manual and the spent casing that comes with the gun. Only thing missing is the key for the integral lock, which I have no intention of ever using anyway so I don't care.
I called Ruger and asked if there where any upgrades, recalls, or technical service bulletins on the P345 and they said no, no changes to the gun except now available with an accessory rail.
Everyone that I've spoken with who has one, loves the thing.
Here's a link to my last-weeks questions about a P345: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359466

Good luck.

I have had excellent results with mine. For a comparison in size, it is pretty close to a Colt Commander. The double action pull on the P345 is on the heavy side but that is easily fixed in about 5 minutes with a replacement hammer spring from Wolff. Accuracy is very good. When I carry mine, I carry it IWB and it conceals as well as any 1911.

I shot this target rapid fire at 15 yards with my pistol.

Mine has been extremely reliable and certainly accurate enough (I'm not the best shot in the world, but I don't blame the 345)!

It was actually my first handgun. I enjoyed shooting it so much that... Well, suffice to say it isn't my only one any more. I do prefer the M&P, but if you like the Ruger it's a great gun for the $$$.

i've never owned one....but i have others rugers. they are built like a tank.

i remember reading here that u should NOT dri fire it w/o the mag in (or maybe it was w/the magout??)....otherwise something breaks inside. anyway, try not to dry fire it.
