Consider the P95 or 97. I now have about 600 rounds through a P97D and am very impressed with it. Subjective as it is, the polymer frame and shorter trigger fit me very well and let me shoot the gun almost as well as a good 1911. The DA is very good (quite similar to a revolver in feel, which is excellent). My DA groups are sometimes better than the SA, but in either case the gun outshoots me. BTW the SA is quite acceptable--no creep in mine, at any rate. I would almost like to see how a DAO P97 performed if this one behaves so well.
I still have a SIG P220 that I was never able to shoot well in either DA/SA or DAO configuration, and that was after modifying in a short trigger and having SIG do a tune on it. It comes down to ergonomics, but the short of it is that I can shoot one gun well and not the other.
I would be comfortable carrying the P97 for duty, and I am primarily a wheelgunner. Had it been around the last few years of my LEO career I think I might have considered going over to one.
BTW I spent quite a bit of time working with the 9mm ctg for a couple of years in a Glock and BHP. In my hands a good .45 ACP will shoot rings around a 9mm. The object of shooting is to hit something and the .45 does a very good job of that. I dumped the Glock and kept the BHP because it is a classic and I shoot it a bit better.
Of course free advice is often worth only as much as you pay for it. I might be a 13 year old kid with fantasies for all anyone knows.
