I have a P89DC that has a new "feature". If I insert a magazine HARD while the action is locked open, the action will close and chamber the first round. It only happens when I insert the mag hard, and it just started doing this. I've had this weapon for probably 10 years and have run thousands of rounds through it. Any thoughts on this "feature"?

If it has no prior history of doing this, and with all the time and "mileage" on it, it probably has some wear on the slide stop or its notch in the slide. As long as the slide still locks back as it is supposed to and the round always chambers, I still wouldn't be concerned. Lots of other pistols do this even when new(er). The magazine only needs to be inserted firmly, not necessarily with force.

Agreed. It has probably just worn out a little. Not a big deal since you know it happens, but if it bugs you, send it to Ruger. i doubt seriously that would be an expensive repair.

I've had this happen on many semi-autos with a sharp enough smack, even brand new ones. Not an issue. Just physics.

My CZ 75 will do this with a full mag. I'm thankful it does this because there's no ambi slide release. Also, if the action is open, and I'm slamming a full mag into the gun, logically my next move would be to drop the slide right?

Okay there's a consensus; not a problem don't worry about it. I can live with that.

@TLH, I guess my use of the word "hard" may be a slight exaggeration, but your point is well taken. This gun is so rugged I don't even think twice about firmly loading the mag.

@hAkron, "...logically my ext move would be to drop the slide..."
Yes, I agree, this has crossed my mind.

Thanks guys.
