I expected the P95 to be discontinued following the introduction of the SR9. I know some variations of it have been discontinued. I wonder what its future is now. I like the model, but don't like buying things that are discontinued.

5000 P95 (DAO's I think) went to the US Army for the Armoured units to equip every tanker with some sort of weapon. Pistols werre delivered in 45 days with spares and magazines. Price was better than M9 and much faster delivery.

Well, I just got mine. P95, NIB, I'm shooting it tomorrow.

For the record, ALL the Rugers purchased by the military were for issue to the Iraqi security forces. I used to have a P95 and loved it. I wouldn't mind another.

At just around $300, the P95 is Ruger's "entry level" price point auto now. It's a good gun and a great value and I expect it to stay in the lineup for a long while.

Correct. The reason peope think the Ruger 95 puchase was for armor units was because how the contract was administered. I believe "TACOM" stands for "Tank and automotive command" but it also purchases things distributed as U.S. military aid.

Armor crewman are issued the M-9 pistol and, I believe, generally one M-4 per tank. (Although I believe there is an effort to issue more M-4's per tank for units in Iraq or Afghinistan).

With four models still being sold some 15 years after its introduction, I believe it's going to be spending a good bit of time on the market (or so I hope).

Discontinuing a highly successful model? Why would any business want to do that?

I need one to keep my P89 company. That's a good enough reason isn't it?
Yep! That's the excuse I'm going to use to get another one. I had one but gave it to my youngest daughter when she turned 21 last July. I'd only had it for a couple of months.
