I have a question for the board. Let me start off by saying that I am located in California so a big part of the reason I am thinking of doing this is because I already own a ruger P95DC and normal capacity (15 round) magazines that I bought before the ban in 1999.

The new Ruger P95s have a built in accessory rail that my 1st gen does not. However the new ones are only offered with a manual safety and the 1st gen that I own is a decocker with no safety (P95DC - no longer offered by Ruger).

I would like to update my P95 with an accessory rail for a light, but I don't want a manual safety (I like the DC version). So if I buy a new P95 can I take my old P95DC slide and put on the new P95PR with the rail? Could I also use the other new parts on the new P95PR like the barrel and recoil spring/guide rod?

Thanks in advance.

This is not to try to convince you of anything but just to relate my experience. Like you, I only liked the DC versions of Ruger's P-series and I wanted another P-90 to replace one I had years ago. I was disappointed the DC was dropped and was looking around for one. Not being successful, I went ahead and purchased a manual safety version and found, much to my surprise that I like it quite a bit. I do think the DC version looks a bit better but while I like the looks of Rugers, they are not generally purchased because they are the best looking. The manual safety is simple to operate and does everything the decocker does except flip back to firing status on its own. It is a simple matter after decocking to swipe the safety back up if you want to return the pistol to firing status. Just my personal thoughts on the matter. In the future, I won't let the MS/DC issue influence me one way or the other.

It looks like the slide cutout for the trigger bar is in different locations on the two models. Looking at the parts diagrams for the two, the frames look very similar and most of the frame internals are the same with the exception of the trigger bar and the slide stop. So, I think it would be a question of will these parts (from the decocker model) fit into the new frame and function as required with the decocker top end.

Hopefully, someone here (or on the Ruger forums) can give you a first hand answer.

Regards,
Greg
