I have never had one, but this model has never made sense to me.

I've had an Sp101. Great with a 2" barrel and slim to pack. About $150 cheaper than a 640. Makes sense.

I've had two GP100s. Great with a 4" barrel. Heavy but soft to shoot. Very accurate 6 guns.

Extending the barrel on a 5 shot self defense weapon to make it a better target gun is a bit of a head scratcher to me.

Still as far as quality goes, I would have no qualms with one. Nice little tanks:)

I understand what you're saying I'm also looking at a Smith and wasson model 66 with a 4"barrel i just keep thinking that the Ruger would carry easier

The 4 inch Sp101's are good, depending on what caliber you get. IMO, the .22 SP101's are heavy chunks of fancy trash. Sure, they'll last forever, but any .22 revolver with a steel frame will last forever and there are other options than the near $600 SP101 that have better ergos and triggers.

The 4 inch .327 I have and originally I did not like it for the usual SP101 issues, but it's growing on me and if I'm going to have a .32 revolver, I'd rather have 6 shots in an SP101 size gun than 7 shots in a GP100.

The 4 inch .357 SP101 I'm not sure what to make of it. I have two vintage Charters from the 80s in .357 with 4 and 6 inch barrels and extremely good triggers, not too mention are lighter and have better grips, not too mention cost half as much. That said, the SP101 would eat all .357 ammo I fed it if all I wanted to shoot in it was .357. I don't plan to tho, at most I would be shooting a max .38 +P load that's verging on being a low end .357 and I have no doubts the Charters can handle that.

As to the "Match Champion" SP101's, I've looked at the Match Champion GP's and SP's as Ruger's attempt to make the actions/triggers feel smoother out of box and give them nicer looking grips. I don't think they're really match/competition revolvers tho, that's what the Super GP100 is supposed to be now.

Bottom line is the 4 inch SP101's are supposed to fill the niche of a lightweight trail gun. The .327 variant aside, I don't feel you get your money's worth with them if the intended use is a trail gun.
