What do you guys use for a Ruger SP101 2.25" concealed carry? Am thinking of a DON HUME ITW holster, but up for any opinions?

Thanks

I might consider a good pocket holster for that gun. If so, the Robert Mika holster is about the best for the least $$ in my opinion.

Tried a few different ones but have yet to find one nicer in fit, finish or comfort than the Mitch Rosen "Workman". It's what the rest of the tuckable got the idea from/copied.

Many considerations

If you are looking for mass produced holsters there are several reputable companies - Don Hume, Galco, Bianchi, Safariland. These are generally a less expensive than custom holsters. For OWB in a small frame revolver the Bianchi Black Widow is my choice in this price range.

There are a number of reputable custom holster makers who can make most anything you want. FIST http://www.fist-inc.com offers a large variety of styles and options. They make a good product at a reasonable price in both leather and Kydex.

Whatever brand you choose there are some features to look for, and to stay away from. Stay away from soft fabric and stay away from metal belt clips no matter the brand name.

Look for:

Leather or Kydex for OWB but I find Kydex too unforgiving and uncomfortable for IWB.

Belt slots for OWB and snap straps for IWB that are placed fore and aft the gun, not over or behind the cylinder.

The mouth of the holster needs to be stiff enough to stay open when the gun is removed. A reinforced mouth, especially for IWB, is usually necessary to accomplish this.

A thumb snap is a desired feature to assure retention. You are not required to always use it (although I recommend you do) but it is always there for times you will wish you had it.

Shop thoroughly until you drop - the money!:D

I'd take a look at the Super Tuck by Crossbreed. Seems like a good design for a heavier pistol.

I've got the Don Hume,

While I like it in general I don't carry with it much. Couple of things I don't like.

It feels top heavy in the holster....Meaning when I carry the grip feels like it outweighs the holster and could accidentally fall out. It never has and it it fits well it's just how it feels.

Another thing is that it only has a clip, another point where it could become uncliped and fall.

I've carried my daughters S&W model 60 with a 3" barrel in the same holster and it feels completely different, even though the holster was made for the SP101 it works better for the Smith.

If it were me I would look for something that sits deeper and is more secure, with belt loops. YMMV.

I've tried four holsters for my 3 inch SP101 and the Don Hume in-the-waistband works the best. I had to wait for it on back order from Gunners Alley, but it is the most comfortable holster I have ever used for this gun. Looks great too.

Which four other holsters did you try?

My SP sits comfortably in a Galco-fletch style belt holster, with shirt-tails hanging over it the high-riding" /forward-tilt makes it easy to draw AND most important it hugs my love-handle blending into my side, black leather holster with only black CT-grips protruding blend nicely against back-drop of black t-shirt,and if im feeling "crowded" I simply slip my right-hand into my pocket and it disappears under my forearm, I have tried pocket-holsters and found the SP to be WAY to heavy for those !

Simply Rugged Silver Dollar.

It is extremely comfortable, and my 2.25" SP-101 cannot be seen under an untucked polo shirt, or a loose fitting untucked t-shirt.

It aint traditional by a long ways but this feller designed the Briggs R-150 Bib and Suspender holster for me when my dad ,who always wears bibs, began carrying a SP-101and asked me to help him find a holster for it. If you wear suspenders your pistol disappears under a light buttondown shirt. Also it works great to use with insulated bibs if you work outdoors in the winter and dont like pocket carry.

Before the Don Hume, I tried a cheapo Gunmate, an Uncle Mike's (#0 I think), an Uncle Mikes IWB thing I cannot recall the number of, and my pancake from Simply Rugged. The pancake works very well for controlling printing and has good retention. Problem is it won't conform to the curvature of my bod, pulls my belt out, and sags a lot.

I carry my SP-101 in the Simply Rugged holster that was previously mentioned. It fits the gun well and is comfortable, but does tend to sag down a bit, but I am sure that is because I don't have a good gun belt. I have also carried it in the front pocket of my jeans and, though it does fit it is not comfortable and could not be easily accessed.

I sometimes carry my Detective Special in a Bianchi Pistol Pocket. Same exact holster for the SP101. I also have the holster for the S&W K-frame snubbies like the 19, 66, 65 and 13 and it is a treat. Carried a 13 in one for years without problems.
