I've had a .22LR AR upper for a while.
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who tries it, wants to go buy one.
As rimfireriot says, it's MUCH easier and more pleasant to clean than a 10/22, and with a little extra oil, it'll go longer between cleanings. Given that, if I shoot a .22 semiauto rifle, I usually shoot a brick, that matters. The 10/22 stops working reliably much sooner than the AR design.
(The SR22 is a 10/22 action in a special stock.)
I'd go for one of the new AR-style .22s, or, if you're inclined to spend a little more, get a .22LR on a true AR lower, and it can be two guns in one, later on, if you add an upper in .223, or some other centerfire caliber.
