It is a brutal black market. Some of the nations in Africa even have what amounts to a shoot on sight allowance of poachers, and there is still plenty undeterred.
The market for the horn remains strong even as the animal go extinct.
They are just one of the animals going extinct for what amounts to witch doctors of chinese and asian medicine.
Even as science shows they have no medicinal properties.
Tigers are likewise going extinct because there is a strong demand for powdered tiger penis.
I would like to make jokes about people paying so much to put penis in thier mouth, but we of course have a diverse community here to be respectful of.
What they really need to do is start targeting chinese medicine shops.
Or maybe these nations that care so much about thier animals could utilise thier intelligence services to deal with such people.
The relatively small number of animals available to kill and that are killed (even though it is a good percentage of those that exist), means it is going to be a relatively small number of shops able to stock rhino horn. Track them down.
