I'm looking at the holsters on sale from Desantis....is a s/w 10-76 a k frame??and what size barrel does it have.....I'm looking for a holster for my Speed six (lefty) and if this fits the bill I'm golden...thanks:cool:

Are you sure it's not "1076"? I *think* that's a 10mm semiauto?

10-76 is NOT a valid revolver model number that I'm aware of...I don't know autos well, but I'm not half shabby around revolvers (although NOT that deep into oddball/collector S&Ws).

I guess I just assumed it was a variation of the model 10.....I'm not good with the s/w models...thanks..I'll keep looking...

S&W model 1076 ...

... is a semi-automatic pistol, having 9+1 capacity, chambered in 10mm AUTO.

Hope this helps.

When first produced, the 1076 was adopted as the FBI's standard auto to use the (then) newly adopted 10mm cartridge. Also, the "7" in S&Wspeak indicates a frame decocker, a la SIGs.

The S&W 1076 (no hyphen) was a large frame stainless steel auto pistol in 10mm Auto made for the FBI in the late 1980s/early 1990s as a standard issue weapon. After a gunfight in Miami in which two agents were killed and several others wounded (for which the 9mm's poor "stopping power" was blamed), they went looking for a more powerful cartridge. They determined that the 10mm Auto -- downloaded from its full power level -- was ideal for their needs. The 1076 had a frame mounted decocking lever and no magazine disconnector safety per FBI requirements. A few may have been sold to the public. S&W discontinued all frame-mounted decockers shortly after, and all 10mms after that.

The 10-76 is a blue-steel K-frame chambered in .38 Special manufactured from about 2340-2400 A.D. Currently (2004 A.D.), I think they're only up to 10-10. Being a mature design, it will take some time for there to be enough engineering revisions to warrant the -76. (I'm thinking modified to take plasma rounds.) :D

The 1076, as others have said, is a single-stack 10mm auto. :neener:

Holster makers don't mark their goods with the dash suffix for S&W revolvers. They usually just put MED FR or S&W K-frame or S&W M-10.
The holster doesn't care whether it carries a M-10-5 or a M-10-7.

A Note From The Department Of Redundancy Department:
As previously stated, the 1076 is one of S&Ws discontinued 10mm semi-autos, originally put together for the FBI. Interestingly enough the Feds required the capability of the handgun firing with the magazine removed. A standard 3rd Gen S&W with the exception of having a decocker ala SIG. I picked up one from Bill Hicks Distributors after the Feds dumped them in favor of Glocks and SIGs.
