I need info on a S&W .39 Special ctg. It is a six shot revolver serial # 275639.
On top of the barrel are the following patent dates: Oct2, 01, Dec17, 01,
Feb06, 06, Sep14, 09, Dec29, 14. Any info on the history and approximate value would be appreciated. Thanks

Looks like a .38 Hand Ejector, Military & Police, Model of 1905, Fourth Change.
They made nearly half a million from 1915 through 1942 but yours is pretty early in the serial number range. Maybe somebody can pin it down to a year or short span of years.

Resale value $50 - $500, originality and condition are everything on a standard model like this.

1916 or 1917. Your gun predates heat treatment of cylinders, so it should only be shot with standard pressure lead loads, no jacketed, semi jacketed, plusP or +P+ ammo.
It also predates the positive hammer block safety and should be treated as a 5 shooter, leaving the chamber under the hammer empty. If dropped it there is a small risk that it could fire.
