Could anyone help me with a value for a model 29 with a 4 inch pinned barrel, red front sight, metal adjustable rear sight, 4 screws, standard wood grips. The serial number is S221xxx which indicates it was manufactured in late 1961. Small blue loss at the front of the barrel likely from holster acid. Rest of blue is good. Very tight, smooth action, good trigger pull. IMG_0686.JPG

Id look on Gun Broker, and click on the "advanced" tab in the search function, and then search under the "completed auctions" tab.

Just keep track of the guns that actually sold (not all of them do) and that should give you a pretty good idea as to what they are going for.

I would say that a 29-2 in good order with minor cosmetic wear will generally go for $750 to $1100 in most parts of the country. if you are in a place which restricts such things, of course, they can go quite a bit higher. Here in California I have seen such guns sell for more than $1500.

Your gun is right at the end of the time period (1961) were it could be worth a significant amount of money depending on what particular model it is. Do you know if it’s a 4 four screw version? If it is it would have 2 exposed screws on the lower right side plate with one concealed under the right grip and one in front of the trigger guard.

Looking in the most recent copy of the Blue Book of Gun Vaues based on the 4 inch barrel length and date of manufacture you mentioned it appears to be a 29-1. In 100% condition it lists at $4,500. At 95% it’s listed as $3,000. For 29’s (29-2’s) made in 1962 or thereafter value drops off significantly.

These stated values are based on a number of metrics (auctions/known private sales etc) to come up with the dollar value indicated. Like always, the gun is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

This pistol has 4 screws, 1 under grip, 2 on side plate, 1 in front of trigger. Thanks
