Looking at a S&W 4506.The gun looks and shoots great.Has a LaserMax laser 2-8 round mags and 2-10 rounders. It belongs to a friend of mine and he told me to make an offer. What would be a fair price to offer?Ive been wanting a 1911 but this 4506 seems to fit the part also. Thanks

"book" value is listed as:

1) ANIB $700
2) Excellent $575
3) VG $435

This is from the S&W guide, 2006 data. Prices went up a bit in 2007, and then down in 2008. I'd say they are still valid. Up to you on valuing the Laser.

Other thing to do is to go to Gunbroker, search COMPLETED auctions for ones that actually sold to get a price. Consider people are also paying shipping and transfer fees on top of those to get an "out of pocket" price.

1911s are nice, but 4506's have an enviable reputation, nothing to regret about getting one.

I saw one recently in a local shop; adjustable rear sight had been added, the gun was magna-ported, and had Hogue aftermarket wood grips...priced at $525.00 (this is in the midwest)

I paid $450 for mine LNIB in 2006. That was definitely a good deal. Fair for one in VG to Exc. condition would be around $550. I don't really consider the extra couple mags and laser to be worth much extra.

Its honestly pretty hard to say with smith autos right now. Everyone respects them as great guns, and yet they don't sell very well in today's market. I had a 4506-1 listed here just this past September.

Nobody ever took me up on it, and I thought that was pretty darn good deal with the extras. I still see the smith autos in stores now for quite a wide range of prices. I think maybe many people just don't want a big heavy all steel gun anymore.
