Hi all I have a chance to pick one of these up for $300 OTD its a LE trade-in and has one factory hicap mag,its in very good shape with only minor holster wear on the sharp points. This gun is pretty much new on the inside and out it looks to have been shot very little its is the model with the squre trigger guard whaich I prefer BTW. I have always loved the look of these guns and have always wanted a 5906 but never got around to buying one I know the 5906's rep as being excellant in terms of reliability is the 5903 the same? This appears to be the same gun as the 5906 but with and alumminum alloy frame which cuts the weight big time nice for CCW U think. Thanks for any feedback on this gun guys I may just go buy it tomorow as I'd like to have another 9mm on hand based on your replies.

It should be a strong pistol for you. It sounds like a good deal. I currently own and carry the 6946 and have owned the 6906 and they are great pistols. Good luck. Mike

5903 is a stainless slide on an aluminum alloy frame. Should be just as good as the 5904 (blued slide). The third generation S&W pistols have a very good reputation for reliability and durability. If you like it, go for it!

Me experience with S&W...

My first S&W was a 9mm 915 that I picked up new when I was 23yrs old. I was really impressed with it, and had I known then that I could have changed the straight backstrap grip, I might still have it. I sold it to pay the rent and I am a bit saddened that I did.

I currently own a 4506, 4516, and a 5906. I love each one and can say that they perform as well as moany of the so called "high end" pistols I have owned, including my beloved SIGs.

If the barrel/bore are in good shape and the action still feels good, You will be served well. The only thing you may have to do is replace springs, but that will depend on how the gun was cared for prior to your ownership.

Good Shooting and God Bless!

Hey reverand the gun if a LE trade-in and looks to be fired very little and recoil spring feels good to kinda stiff even. I think I'am gonna get it one last thing does the 5903 share any parts with the 5906 or is it its own gun so to speak?

Good question...

They might...

I would probably drop S&W a line and find that one out. Because the 5906 is all steel and the 5903/04 have aluminum frames, the tolerances may be a bit different.

Just don't let the nay sayers who have limited experience with S&W products to give you grief over your selection. Yes ergonomics are improtant, but they are also unique to you and your hands. Rest assured you are contemplating obtaining a quality piece that will serve you well for decades to come.

God Bless
