There is an appropriate tool for every job.

Couple observations:

It's interesting that people consider relatively weak handguns as appropriate primary home defense weapons. Handguns a great for concealment and ease of carry--something that is irrelevant in an HD scenario.

For the person who feels that one shot of .45 to the torso is going to stop an attacker, do a search for the recent story about a man that took 3-4 hits to the torso and was only stopped finally by one to the head. He was shot by a bystander as he continued to beat the snot out of a cop.

It's amazing that people are listing noise and losing a gun to evidence as some of their top considerations in home defense weapons. I can think of half a dozen factors that supercede those secondary concerns. The loss of a gun would be one of my last concerns--I would happily trade a piece of steel for the flesh of my loved ones.

Shotgun was not one of the choises. I agree that it is the best primary weapon, but that was not what was asked.
This is like when somebody asks "H&K USP or Sig?" and somebody pops up with "Glock".
