Hi all,

I just got a S&W Centennial Pre-Model 40 which I believe was made between 1952-1955 since it has a 4 screw sideplate as well as a four digit serial number.

In reading about this gun, I learned that they came with a pin which allowed for disabling the lemon-squeezer safety but that the pins are seldom found with the guns. Well, sure enough when I took the grips off to clean it up, a very small pin scooted out and managed to land in the worst place imaginable (you don't want to know). After a trip to the hardware store for a specialized retrieval tool, I was able to corral the pin and confirmed that it did indeed fit through a hole in the frame and the grip safety when depressed.

What I don't know for sure is where this pin is stored if you do not want to use it for its intended purpose. I noticed a hole in the grip frame next to the base of the mainspring seat and it seems to fit in there so I was wondering if someone could confirm that this is where it belongs? Thanks!
