i have a S&W model 649 with hogue 6000 grips (three finger grooves and covered backstrap).

when i shoot, i like to have a full firm grip on the revolver, which, for me, means having the index finger almost to the second joint on the trigger. sometimes, during the trigger return, my finger gets pinched between the top of the trigger and the frame. this is less than pleasant.

if i had a grip which filled my hand a bit more, than a little less of the index finger would be on the trigger and perhaps eliminate the pinch.

i would be glad to hear any suggestions.

That's WAY too far up on the trigger finger. There is no need to go past the FIRST joint, at least, if you want to have any accuracy.

with my current hand grip i am getting 2 " - 3 " groups, so the accuracy is ok. ive tried backing off the trigger a bit, but when i do, the grip on the revolver feels loose and sloppy.

I put the Pachmayr Compac grips on my j frame for just this reason. It has a covered backstrap and allows a three finger grip, but is smaller than the Hogue Monogrip which is too large.
