S & W mod. 340.......

Just acquired a S&W 340 SC, 357 mag. VERY light. Took it to the range, ran a few .38 and .38+P through it... nice; then i filled it with 5 rounds of .357 mags....... I fired two rounds only.... OUCH ......then went back to shooting .38s. My hand hurt for an hour or so after firing the 357s . Guess I'll keep it filled with 4 rounds of .38 (or +P) and 1 round of .357.
Any comments?

I have the 340PD. It is my favorite Centennial because it is so light. I load mine with lite-357 loads like Golden Sabers or Hydrashocks. They are a handful - more than 38+Ps. Not fun and would not want to shot a lot at the range. But I figure when the chips are down, I won't notice the thump.

So my typical range outing with the 340 is 38 target ammo, some +Ps and a cylinder or two of lite 357s.

BTW, I HAD to change out the grips. The Hogue Bantams sucked for me. I have a pair of Craig Spegel Boot Grips for the Centennial (thye ride higher). Makes a world of difference

I get mine in 2 weeks....

Out one on layaway.... picking it up at the gunshow in Columbia SC on 11/2. I paid $599 for mine.... was that a good price?

Another good "soft" 357 mag load for the 340 is Proload's 125 gr tactical lite (listed at 1125 fps). Recoils about like a stout 38 Spl +P. Uses the 38 Spl Gold Dot bullet (which has a wider hollow point than the 357 mag), so expansion should be OK at reduced velocity.
