S&W model 36 finish

Picked up a S&W model 36, serial # 48XXX w/ a matt finish. IS this original or did the piece get re-finished sometime along the way?
Thanks!
 
I suspect a refinish. Production at the time (1954, give or take) was polished blue or nickel plate.
