A senior friend of mine was selling his S&W Model 38.
It comes with the box & docs (no tools if there were any).

I've had a chance to shoot it several times.
It's a bit high at 10 yards, so I'll have to work on that.

The Standard Catalog of S&W says it was made in 1969-1970, & that got me to wondering, when did S&W stop making M38s?

I told him I thought is was worth between $350-$400.
(looked at completed auctions on gunbroker.)

But he refuses to take that much.
SO I sold an M36 no dash so I'd have the funds to buy it

I think I'll have to take him & his wife out to a steak house dinner.
(I got it & paid $275)

M38, M38-1, and M38-2 produced 1955 - 1996.
M38-3 Rated +P and MIM parts produced 1997 - 1999.

Well it's about time ... LOL
Yes, I knew someone was gonna ask.
I put new grips on it already.
Strange, but the original grips weren't numbered to the gun (no number at all).
And yes, I'm sure they were the original grips.

Sorry, as you can see I'm not a photographer.

Nice looking Model 38 you've got there; one of my all time favorite J frame models. I bought my first one nearly thirty years ago, and alternated between the factory grips with a Tyler T-Grip adapter, or with a pair of Rogers Combat Grips which greatly resemble the new grips you just put on.

My favorite J frame revolver has a Bodyguard frame. I like the Blue/Black ones best so I guess the M38 is my favorite J frame then! LOL

Nice revolver, good luck with it.
