I like snubs and came across this today. I have a mid 70's manufactured nickel Model 36 and have been looking for a blue steel model for several years. Although S&W manufactured thousands of this model in blue steel I have never come across one where the condition and price matched and I have been looking for years.
That is until today. Pinned model no dash round butt. One owner bought in 1960 and SN indicates a 1959 manufacture date.Very clean with no holster wear and the only blemish, if you want to call it that, is a barely noticeable cylinder turn ring. Probably paid a tad more than I should of but I wasn't going to walk away from it.

Very nice revolver.

A turn line is unavoidable no matter what you do.

If you don't mind, what was the price for that nice old flat latch M36?

$550 isn't all that bad. They used to be $250-$300 all day long until S&W put the M36 in the Classic line and slapped a $749 price tag on it. It is a flat latch with the diamond grips so it's worth more.

Actually back in the day you could get a decent used 3" Model 36 for around $125, a 2" barrel version for $150, while a Model 60, when you could find one, would set you back close to $300.

Yep, prices sure have gone up on the diminutive Model 36.

If I'd seen that at $600, I'd have bought it. In fact, I did pay $600 for a 3" with no wear. I think you did okay. Very handsome specimen!

Those are the right grips for the era; do they number to the gun? Bet they do.

Yeah, and there was a time when you could buy a loaf of bread for $0.10 and a gallon of gas for $0.24. Did you miss my "many a year" comment?

Why does it appear that some here want to poo poo the good deal that the OP got?

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here. Like the OP I have seen Model 36s in lesser condition go for a lot more than what he paid for his. I think he got a great, vintage snubnose revolver for a very reasonable price, given current market conditions with S&W revolvers.

For approximately the same amount of money one could buy a brand new S&W snub ; mim and all. Hmmm , tough call .....

Mr. Shule , that is one beautiful , classy revolver. You have my envy.

I have that same gun. It was my grandfathers everyday carry gun, so, it’s a bit more worn than yours. I admired it my whole life growing up, and especially after seeing him shoot it one day when I was still a boy! I’m still impressed when I remember how accurate he was with that snub nose!
