I'm looking at about $200 difference in buying them locally. Should I go w/the more expensive SA or save the $ & get the plenty good enough RIA?

I have them both and they're relatively equal in my opinion.

It depends on what you want to do with them. There are some 'pro' gunsmiths who will perform customization work on Springfield and not work on RIAs or other Armscor pistols.

Here's a thread detailing the two pistols in photos.

Get the RIA. Springfield GI is a good gun but not $200 better. Better yet, get the RIA tactical. All the bells and whistles you need for the next 10-20,000 rounds. Then, you can trade up to a Wilson or Les Baer by virtue of being an "old hand at 1911s".
