OK I want to have the frontstrap checkered on my Springfield Armory 1911-A1, but it is the older blocky style (pre2002). Springfield armory offers frame recontouring to 2002 specs.

My question:

If I want the front strap to be contoured to the 2002 specs AND checkered should I pay for both or will Springfield armory recontour the frontstrap as part of the checkering? I would be sending my pistol to the SA Custom Shop and just getting the $75 machine checkering job. the front strap recontour is $65.

Also, If I want a Dawson Precision light rail to be mounted by Dawson Precision, should I also have the dust cover recontoured while my gun is at the custom shop? or do the Dawson people know that I might have a blocky-style dust cover when I specify that it is a springfield armory frame?

I was planning on having to e-mail SA Custom Shop and Dawson Precision anyway, just wanted to see if any of you guys knew from experience first.

Matt, I think you ought to consider getting all the work done at one place. SA Custom Shop has excellent prices, but that will be offset by shipping costs if you have work done at multiple shops (about $40 per trip, isn't it?).

well because of the length of time between getting the frame recontoured and checkered at SA custom shop and sending it to Dawson Precision for a light rail the $40 for the shipping isn't that big of a deal. it will probably be 6 months or so before I get that light rail, but I plan on getting the frame work done in the next month or so.
