SA-80 mags, what do you think of them in extended use?

I picked up two the other day and both run great so far. These are the parkerized steel body 30rd AR compatible mags. They fit my Bushmaster very well and are built pretty tough. Got them for 17 apiece.

Now if these things are pre-ban, where have they been hiding? Not marked, so that means pre-ban to me :) It's my understanding that the Brits ditched all of these mags in their never-ending quest to improve that rifled abortion they call a weapon. Seems the mags are fine, time to get L7s to go with them.

I picked up one a few months ago. Its been my primary hard use mag. I think they are sturdier than the USGI mags. I've put about 500rds threw the mag and haven't had any problems. I don't think there are any issues with these mags other than the SA-80 rifle itself.

Hi Guys,

I have a few of the Royal Ordinance gray parkerized mags. The only problem I noted was that some of the mags would not seat under a closed bolt when fully loaded with 30 rounds. Replacing the follower with a green one solved this. Otherwise, they have been very reliable.

Best

I have to agree with the above posts. I bought 5 of them and will buy more as they come available.

Too bad their not $10 a pop. AS it is I'll stick with Orlites which have worked very well for me.

I will still do the 5 for $20 a piece. Just e-mail or call to place the order. On Friday I said it was the last day but I have had a lot of requests to honor the price, so I will extend the deal for a couple of days. :D

RATS! I saw some of these at a show about a month ago. They were marked "British AR-15 steel magazines". I figured that they were USA mags or some other sort of crappy American made mags, relabeled to fool those who new about the USA reputation for less than stellar quality control.
Now I wish I had bought some....

16.99 was a local shop, looks like you guys better do Tapco. The shop had them stickered at 24.99, but their computer said 16.99. I wasn't arguing the point with them. I'd buy more, but my AR mag collection is out of hand. FWIW, I love USA 40rd mags. The old one have a tough body. Reliability comes from tuning and dremeling the feed lips in the right places. Eventually I will go IMSI spring and green follower, but right now it runs like a top with up to 41 rounds in it.

Doesn't PMI make a 40 round mag? I'd try one based on the reliability that PMI is known for in the Mini-14's... But I haven't seen any in a long while.

I am experiencing a severe shortage of mags... I only have 10! :what:
