Responsible firearm ownership means being responsible.
Common sense and reading instructions are also attributes of a responsible firearm owner.

Vinyl dressings such as Armor-All, list in the instructions to not apply to vehicle steering wheels, pedals for clutch, brake and gas .

It is slippery!!

Do not apply vinyl dressings onto firearms!!
Firearms are dangerous tools, just like motor vehicles, and one has to be in control of the tool to maintain safe control of the tool.

Yes, I am angry and will admit having to wait some time to post this.
I am still measuring myself as I type.

A person applied vinyl dressing to a polymer semi-auto handgun and synthetic stocked shotgun; they lost control of both firearms.

They also applied vinyl dressing to their black fiberglass nylon reinforced handle, one hand opening knife, with locking blade

Thankfully, nobody got hurt, as Gun Safety Rules were in place.
Still a Fence Sitter and their kid witnessed this and scared them.

The owner bought synthetic, which is their right; just this person is not a living example of responsible firearm ownership.
I and mine took away the guns; others sat them down and had a “chat”, while we used baby shampoo to remove that slippery mess.

They are not welcome in our circle ever again.

When one has lemons, one makes lemonade as the saying goes. So we had to listen to a Fence Sitter and kid, and take our medicine.
They have a right to vent, be upset, and express serious concerns.
We have a responsibility to shut up, and allow them too.

We were able to turn it around; and I had to apologize to them both for my language and actions.
I may be over age 50, but I can still move in a hurry if need be.
Fence sitter and kid said they were scared, then got a bit more so, when I went into action with another right behind me.

It was our responsible firearm owner attitudes that won them over.
The kid, actually expressed, my being angry, cussing and actions, let them know I cared about them being safe.

Do you know why these guns had vinyl dressing applied?
So they could take pictures to share on Internet of these guns, and how they were accessorized.

Yes.
These guns have been shot little with live ammo – they have been shot with a camera a lot.

I flat asked them, in no uncertain terms, if they were buddies of Sarah Brady.
I really feel some folks that have guns do us more harm than Sarah Brady and others do.

Please use a little common sense and live responsible firearm ownership.

Still trying piece all that together...

Who were these people and what were they doing with their slippery show-guns? Where was this? What actions did you take? When you calm down can you fill in the gaps for us?

the important thing is that no one was hurt and that you were able to explain some things to the un-informed, hopefully getting through to them

Interesting way of putting it.

I wonder why someone would put Armor All on a gun...but maybe it was an honest mistake. Unfortunate that it upset someone (I take it the owner of the gun(s) dropped one while shooting?) but maybe you could forgive.

Sounds like they armoralled their weapons:banghead:

I remember a kid getting carried away with the stuff when it came out and did the working surfaces of his tires not just the sides. We laughed alot about that and he had fun getting it defused

It too was for photograpy, funny.

Armorall can be just as dangerous as a gun in the hands of a moron. I have witnessed several motorcycle accidents on cruise nights that were a direct result of the tire shine being applied to motorcycle tires. It says right on the bottle "do not use for motorcycle tires" due to the fact that a motorcycle uses its sidewalls for traction when making sharp leaning turns.
I have never seen an car accident due to Armorall but once had my friend shine up my steering wheel. I was NOT happy and had to spend the next half hour removing the slimy coating so i could drive the car.
Personally if I want a firearm that looks like a showpiece I would choose a wood stock or grips. Nothing against synthetics as i own a synthetic framed pistol, but I just think that wood is much more beautiful than plastic could ever be.

Good grief.

Glad you were there.

I took my truck to the car wash one time and they used armorall on the floor. When i went to get in the my foot slipped and it looked like the truck spit me out. I demanded that they remove it and they did. I could not imagine firing a pistol that slippery.
