My Saiga has a Tapco T6 stock installed on it, but I am interested in moving the trigger assembly and grip up to the magazine. The videos I've seen on it seem rather straight forward, but do I need any additional parts, or will the stock parts be sufficient?

Also, I don't quite like the stock Saiga/Kalashnikov sights on my rifle. Does anyone make a dust cover with a rear sight already installed on it? I was considering the TWS dog leg cover with its picatinny ghost ring, but that isn't to my taste, especially since said ring is non-adjustable. And I have absolutely zero experience or confidence in welding to perform that job myself.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Carolina shooting suply has eveything you need to convert. You could look into the Krebs rail for a better sight but I hope your pockets are deep.
Edit: Are you trying to keep it iron sight or are you wanting to add an optic? Tech Sights would be a great option on an irons only AKM.

I'd like to keep it irons. Not interested in optics for now. I liked the Galil style sights, but I don't want to mess with cutting out my front sight for now.

EDIT: so something like this is the bare minimum I need?

I have Tech Sights on my AK and like them a lot. They are fully adjustable for windage and elevation, in 1 MOA clicks. They make it a lot easier to sight the rifle in... no special tools and drifting required.

No.

Do you have a pistol grip and mounting hardware?

Buttstock? (you could use the old one, but it would'nt look good)

Trigger guard? (you could cut down the old one..)

You can search the internet for cheaper prices on parts or just shell out the money for one of the CSS kits (my choice). They are good to go...

Also make sure that you keep your build 922(r) compliant. Depending on how many US made parts you have, you may need to buy more US parts to be OK.

Gunwiki has a nice calculator to make sure you are legal.

For example, using the US made trigger group plus US made magazines is OK, even if all other parts are stock Saiga. I'd prefer to have compliance without needing US mags, so something like trigger group, stock, grip, and forearm are necessary.

... or you could just count to six.

It's nice to know the compliance parts anyway. Here is a nice chart:

Don't waste your money on pre-packaged conversion kits. Buy the parts individually. You save a lot and get the specific add-ons you want for your rifle. You can convert a Saiga for less than $80.00.... even cheaper if you have a lot of accumulated parts (like me).

Tech Sights are probably what you are looking for in terms of sight configuration. One reason that I do not like the Tech Sight is that they complicate disassembly of the rifle. I like stock AK sights and have no doubt that I could outshoot (with an AK) a large majority of shooters sporting any irons on any rifle.

In regards to parts, I would recommend Carolina Shooter Supply (awesome customer service and very helpful) or Amazon.com.
