I hear about Saiga shotguns sometimes, and I see them all the time at gun shows. My queston is, are they good quality and worth buying?

mine has a problem feeding low brass. I polished the bolt and carrier, etc, and it still gives me problems. I guess they are designed for high brass, since it's a gas fed system?

But I still love it, way too much fun to shoot.

Jams a lot when using low brass shells?
How much can I get one for and are there different models?

There is only one 12, 410, 20 etc.

You can get deals on them from time to time for around $550 or so. I can get you some contacts if you want.

I know clarkearms and Tac47 are two big sellers.

But realize that a stock Saiga is a sickness, the furniture sucks, and you WILL start modding it quickly. Then comes the time "convert" it....just be ready, lol

The Saiga shotgun is a phenomenal $300 shotgun. Unfortunately, these days you gotta pay $600 for one, and that makes it an okay shotgun.

I got three, so I am only slightly biased.

Seriously, the Saiga is like the 10/22 of the shotgun world. Eventually, you're gonna mess with it, and it's gunna be expensive.

Of the three saigas I have handled (one of which is mine) none have had any issue cycling low brass as long as you remember to change the gas plug to the number 2 setting. Mine will occasionally cycle low brass on setting 1, and runs flawlessly on 2 even with the cheapest bulk pack ammo. Really, you should tack on another $200 to whatever price you find to convert it to pistol grip and move the trigger assembly forward. The stock configuration is a handicap and a converted saiga 12 is really the only configuration worth owning. At this point it's an $800 shotgun. Are it's features worth that to you?

Actually I was just looking at a good detatchable-magazine fed auto-loader, I had heard about Saiga's, and I like the AK design.

Well, it's the most fun and reliable shotgun I've ever used. I've had more malfunctions with a Remington 870. But it costs 3x as much...

I think these days it is really worth giving the MKA 1919 a hard look if one is interested in a box magazine fed shotgun. It goes for a bout $700 and has a lot of features that people go to considerable effort and expense to add. The one thing holding the 1919 back right now is that there are only 5 round magazines available. Apart from that it strikes me as perhaps a better starting point than the S12, and I am an S12 fan. One is likely to sink more money into the 1919 to set it up just how they like, much as would be the case with the S12.
