I have a savage 110 with a synthetic stock. I've been wanting to throw a hardwood stock on it--mostly out of a preference for hardwood aesthetics and ergonomics. A friend of mine turned me on to this one:

I wondered if anyone has had experience with these and if they are any good. I'm also open to recommendations from any of you for a new hardwood stock.

Thanks,

Stockys stocks

I purchased a stock from stocky stocks in march of 2011.
they shipped it fast, BUT it was not the stock I ordered or the color and it was not even for the rifle I ordered it for.
I called them and waited on hold for 40 min They also have no 800 #
so this was my dime.
I called back and was told the tech person had left for the day 30 min before.
I called 3 times over the next 2 days still have not reached anyone.
I have e-mailed 3 times, with no reply.
The bottom line is I don't think they care at all about service.
I hope this keeps someone else from being cheated.

Boyd's Stocks...

Invictus 82--Just a vote FOR Boyd's stocks. Their telephone people were VERY helpful to me when I was trying to order a stock for a Yugo M-48 Mauser (for which you CANNOT use a K98k Mauser stock, BTW)

I got exactly what I wanted, and it worked nice for me. From Boyd's, it's wise to get the stock unfinished (not varnished) then you can glass-bed, modify, sand, and THEN varnish it yourself, and it's cheaper than having Boyd's varnish it.

Anyhow, J. P. Willy, you didn't hear from me anything negative about Boyd's!

BTW, Boyd's specializes in laminated stocks (and you can get really wild custom color laminates if you want) but they also make straight walnut stocks if that is your choice.

I ordered a 112 BV stock from Numrich a few months back - the first stock arrived scratched up so it went back, since it was advertised as "factory new".

Second-stock was "hand-picked", and when it arrived it was in great condition...except it had been bashed on the left side by the recoil lug inlet and was cracked. So it went back.

Asked Numrich to send me ANOTHER stock, one with no cracks this time, and they said they were done with me and issued a full refund.

That said, I also ordered a 112VLP stock the same time as the first 112 BV, and it arrived in FANTASTIC condition. So...you might have much better luck than my 50%.

I also have a Boyd Ross Featherweight Thumbhole on my 110 and I like it a LOT; it breathed new life into an old rifle.

Also, is your 110 staggerfeed (mag attached to the action) or centerfeed (mag attached in the stock)? That will kinda play a role in what stock you end up getting, or how much effort will be required to make your rifle properly fit.

be veeery careful...if your stock has the older staggered feed magazine...you're good to go with boyds (great option) or this one (decent option).

the newer centerfeeds (where the magazine stays in the stock when the action is seperated from the stock) can be made to work (on Long actions) with the stock you're looking at, but it requires some creative engineering to pull it off. Not a show stopper, but you need to be aware of it.

+1 on Boyds. I have two Ross Featherweight Thumbhole stocks and both were great fits. Boyds was just fine to deal with.
