One of my sons is looking for a left handed bolt gun for an upcoming elk hunt. He is gainfully employed but is not making a ton of money. He is considering this rifle:

I am trying to provide some guidance, and have the following questions. Is the scope a Nikon prostaff? Is the stock a piece of junk or is it serviceable? Any first hand experience will be appreciated.

He is planning to go to a shop and check one out, but I'm kinda curious myself. Thanks.

Have the same gun in LH 308. The stock is good enough for regular use, but the foreend will bend and hit the barrel if you wrap the sling tight against your arm to brace against. Aside from that the Nikon is a decent enough scope. it's certainly a basic model, but still pretty decent glass. Mine's certainly not a target rifle, but it's about 1.5 MOA with factory ammo.

fyi - mine hates federal ammo. but loves cheap remmington core lokts

Thanks. I have one savage rifle but not a 111. I generally like mine and have heard that most 111's are shooters. The accutrigger's are as good as it gets if you don't mind the little tab.
