I went to sportsmans warehouse today and there was a Stevens Model 200 with a sales price of $269. I really dont know about these kind of rifles since all I have are AKs and ARs.

Does anyone know anything about these? Is the gun good for the price that they are selling it for? Does the low price say something about the rifle

There is nothing wrong with them. They're just cheap to make. Accurate as all heck too. Click the link in my sig line to see the group I shot with my Savage. Of course mine is a bench rest gun built on a Savage action but even the factory guns shoot good groups.

That rifle is basically a Savage 110 without the Savage Accu-trigger. If you're unfamiliar with hunting rifles, you may not know that the Savage 110 is a contemporary classic rifle; they've been in production for a half-century and have a reputation for being highly functional rifles.

Savages have a very loyal following; my numero-uno hunting rifle is a Savage 110 (made before the Accu-trigger) in .30-06.

$269 is a good price for the Stevens 200. Expect a rifle that is a good value, accurate and reliable, just not terribly pretty (especially in the bluing, which is skimpy).

I have one... in 7mm-08, it's been a great rifle. Accurate, reliable, the bluing isn't bad at all... The trigger is adjustable (sorta) the only drawback is the cheesy stock. But if all you're gonna do with it is hunt, it's sufficient for that purpose... Plenty of aftermarket support... if it will fit the Savage 110, it will work on the Stevens 200...

Cheers...

the only under 300 dollar rifle better right now, in the marlin xl 7. better stock , better trigger, Green Mountain bbl. If you can't get the marlin, the stevens is just fine.

The marlin appears to be a copy of the savage though. With Remingtons acquisition of the company I wouldn't expect it to last long either.

I just got one last night in .308 for $304. I had a 5% discount though so it was a little less.

I hear nothing but good about this rifle but I haven't shot it yet.

Oh, and I forgot to add as I was buying it someone else was buying one at the same time. The dealer told me he has sold about 10 of them lately. A good Christmas present I guess.
