Savage Enfield - Should I buy?

The one in post #20 looks better, note the more primitive rear sight; though, it can be replaced with the adjustable elevation sight.
Best,

If the numbers match, you wouldn't want to change the rear sight. There's really nothing wrong with the 2-hole flip sight, as the MOD determined. I have a No. 4 MkI with the click-stop backsight (it's a 1941 Maltby, which is fairly rare), but the micro-adjustability is not necessary unless you are trying to be an iron-sight sniper! ;)

Gbupp, that last one you posted does not look bad at all. Price is not terribly high, although I would offer $225 and see what happens.

Try and buy a rifle with a matching bolt, BUT a non-matching bolt can be just fine as long as the headspace is good. Matching numbers mean more for collectors and may increase resale value.

As far as what backsight you have on the rifle any one is possible. Most war time rifles well have shipped with the flip sight as it was the war time expedient sight. These were often changed out in service and the unit armor would install what he had on hand.

My new 42 LB came with a Canadian marked Mk3 but it more than likely had the flip originally.

NOTE:

The Mark 3 sight is marked "MkII" and the Mark 4 is marked "Mk3" Don't ask, it's a English thing.
