Savage Project

The ony 223 bolt rifle worth buying is the Savage because of the 1:9 twist will shoot up to the 77 match bullets. The slow twist guns and 40-55gr bullest really blow all over past 200 yards if there is any wind at all. Since we don't shoot indoors, I find them quite useless.

I was pulling for a 220 swift with the 1:9 twist so you could push 75 Amax and 77 HPBT and get some velocity out of it. You would be on your own for load development, but that would be a .224 long range gun.

Keep it. you will regret selling. as will you regret selling any good firearm. they are one of the best value holders if cared for.
if it shoots so good learn how to read the drop and shoot well. or you could step up to .30 cal. anything with a .224 bullet will preform very alike with the variable being velocity and trajectory. your not getting alot more punch that you seem to expect.

No, I see no sense in the .223 at all. Maybe I became spoiled by the first rifle I owned, a Rem 700 VS in .25-06. That rifle was my only one for 28 years, it did everything I asked it to. For ground hog hunting it was spectacular, if you could see a ground hog it was in mortal danger.

The .223 has its place, but not for what I do.

How about .223 WSSM - VERY short & F-A-S-T

Your Savage project might not be as dead as you thought. have you concidered the .223 WSSM? It'll push a 50 gr pill 3900 fps and a 55 gr Spitzer at about 3800 fps. At those speeds, your throat will show signs of wear withing 500 rounds (just as ANY OTHER caliber that propels a bullet at those speeds will do. The .222 Swift will do the same.

Do you realize that the 600 yd. trajectory diff from the .223 Rem to the barrel burning Swift is 12.5 moa to 10 moa (52-55 gr bullet with a zero @ 200 yds.). That not much extrs cranking on the top turret. Plus - what if your new project gun isn't as accurate as the very accurate gun that you now have? There's nothing less interesting than an inaccurate rifle.
