I have a Springfield 187 that I inherited from my father... It hasn't been shot in a long time.. 15-20 years. I know that when we shot it though, it jammed like crazy... Does anyone know what kind of .22 ammo I should go with? Any other suggestions?

Peace,
Chad

Chad,

The Springfield/Stevens/Savage "87" series of rifles are designed to work in semi-auto mode with only .22 long rifle ammo. If you are using .22 shorts or longs, they do not have enough power and you will get "jams". If you are using .22 long rifle ammo and are getting jams, do the following: turn the knurled knob on the end of the receiver in a counter-clockwise direction until if comes off. Then, remove the spring and bolt (making note about how they fit in there), and spray them with brake cleaner or some other degreaser. Also spray the inside of the receiver that they came out of. Then, lightly oil everything and put it back together. Hope that helps.
