8670 steel

Krupparms, Mr. Sandberg of Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry made his Knives out of 8670 steel from saw blades he bought from the Rough and Ready log mill when they closed down. His big bowie knives are now worth 3-4 times what they sold for.

I bought several EDMF knives.

I tend to give away a lot of knives.

Wish I'd kept at least one of Dale's.

15n20 and L6 can make great knives, but 5160 from NJSB is even cheaper than 1095.

Well, taking rc's advice I went past the guy's house while coming home from work today and he was open. He wanted 10$ for the blade, 29" dia. and 1/4" thick BTW, and 50$ for a decent 4'x3' metal workbench. Got them both for 45$. :)
The blade has some pitting and is thinner on part of it where it must have been sticking in the ground but I can work around that I think. Need to get a new cut off wheel for my angle grinder now. (Those North Lawrence shops are expensive..) Might check the fella up in McLouth too tho..? :scrutiny:

Not exactly on topic but can anyone please tell me what the real story is on studebaker packard car leaf springs? They are still coveted for blades I'm told.
