As stated here a few day ago, I'm moving from central Illinois :barf: to middle Tennessee. Being from the Land of Lincoln :barf: I have grown accustomed to needing permission from the State to carry a No.2 Lead Pencil.

I'm wondering what is required to purchase and possess short barreled rifles, suppressors and full auto firearms in the great state of Tennessee.

Anyone with experience? Anyone with a link to the information?

Tennessee is a great state for NFA ownership:

Tennessee Code § 39-17-1361. Execution of documents by sheriff or chief of police. —

The sheriff or chief of police of the city of residence of a person purchasing any firearm, defined by the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. § 5845 et seq., shall execute within fifteen (15) business days of any request all documents required to be submitted by the purchaser if the purchaser is not prohibited from possessing firearms pursuant to § 39-17-1316.

Guns and other items are either Title 1 or Title 2. Standard pistols, rifles and shotguns are Title 1. SBS, SBR, AOW, machine guns and suppressors are all Title 2.

You have to have an 01 (or an 07) FFL to sell guns as a business. An 01 FFL can sell Title 1 guns. You can pay a Class 3 Special Occupation Tax (SOT) that allows you to also sell Title 2 items. You can also get an 07 FFL that allows you to manufacture Title 1 guns and you can add to that a Class 2 SOT that allows you to manufacture Title 2 items.

So, an 01 FFL with a Class 3 SOT can sell Title 1 and Title 2 items. An 07 FFL with a Class 2 SOT can make and sell Title 1 and 2 items. Of course newly manufactured machine guns cannot be sold to the general public.

Make sense?
