Hey pallies. I'm thinking of doing a Form 1 short-barrel shotgun (SBS) project in the near future. The shotgun is a new SxS in 12. After my form one is approved, I will have it engraved and do the work. Isn't it:

  • Putting the shotgun in a padded vice and shortening it with a saw.
  • Using a file to clean up the cut.
  • Using some sandpaper to deburr the barrels.
  • Using a little JB Weld to fill in any gap up front.

Any tips? Any tools or materials you recommend? Thanx.

I took the further step of using a piece of wire coat hanger to poke some fine steel wool down into the gap between the barrels to back the JB weld. Seemed to work well enough. Use enough JB to have a little excess sticking out; as it cures it will shrink a bit. Then file any excess off and touch it up with cold blue.

Thanks for the note, MasterSergeantA. I hadn't considered putting some steel wool there, but that makes sense.

What length are you going to cut the barrel down to? I want to get into a SBS but there so damn expensive. I guess I never really thought about doing it this way.

Simple as getting a shotgun, getting an approved Form 1 and then hacksawing the barrel to the length annotated on the Form 1?

You have to have it engraved with the maker and city/state too.
