COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A club owner shot and killed an intruder who broke
into his business, authorities say.

Harold Thomas Weed, 21, was shot in the face early Thursday morning
inside The Foxhole club, authorities said.

Club owner Leslie G. Snider, 58, told Richland County deputies he was
getting ready to close the club when he heard someone kick in a side
door, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Chris Cowan said.

Snider told deputies he never spoke to Weed before firing one shot,
Cowan said.

Weed was on parole for two aggravated assault convictions in September
2002, prosecutor John Meadors said.

Deputies don't plan to charge Snider. Meadors said prosecutors will
review the case to determine whether Snider acted reasonably.

The club previously had been burglarized three times in the last year,
including separate incidents last month and in June, Cowan said.

you mean a parolee comitted another crime ? gasp! the horror!

that never happens in the gret state of Kalifunny wher ewe rehabilitate our bad guys and teach them life skills so they can be productive members of society when they get out...

"review the case to see if he acted reasonably"
sheesh! they should give him tax credit for saving the state and city a bunch of money for doing their jobs for them

One down....

Moparmike - could have been one of those situations where no conversation is necessary to determine that there is significant risk in letting the bad guy continue on his path.

In my dreams, it's a law.......The members of the parole board that vote to give a violent felon parole, in other words, gamble with YOUR life by returning a violent individual to society early, have to draw straws to see who houses the person for a 2 week "readjustment" period as they prepare for their new life on the straight and narrow path of righteousness. I mean, if this individual has convinced the majority of the board that he/she is rehabilitated enough to be safely turned loose early, why wouldn't the board members want to demonstrate to you and me, the taxpayer, their confidence in the soundness of their decision by allowing the parolee to hang around THEIR home and family? Surely with their knowledge of the human character, and ability to see the future, they could inspire the parolee to stay out of trouble. That is if they survived the first night or two that the parolee was "staying over".;)

Hademall,
how about all members of the parole board have to do the time along with the goblin if they commit another crime?Bet there'd be a lot less parolees.

he heard someone kick in a side
While I do champion the cause of ridding our streets of BG's, I do think he should have yelled something to the effect of "Get the (expletive of your choice) out of here!" then shot him.
At minimum, a door that one needs to kick in (in order to gain unauthorized access) is universally understood to mean "Stay the (expletive of your choice) out of here!"

How many warnings does a person need?

HadEmAll's idea of parole board memebers housing new parolees...

Works 4 me.

Maybe we could house some of them with UpChuck Schumer, Fine-swine, etc. Of course, since there are now convicted felons in their homes, they have to give up all weapons and armed guards......

Moparmike:

You are kidding about yelling a warning, why would you give away your position?

Consider the "bang" as his warning. If he can't move faster than the bullet, well, then he just didn't move fast enough.

"Consider the "bang" as his warning. If he can't move faster than the bullet, well, then he just didn't move fast enough."

here here :D

in all seriousness though, I think it is wise to shout a warning, right before you do your civic duty to cover your bases.

21 and wearing a wooden coat... a shame. kudos to the business owner, its good to see instances when people will not allow themselves to be victimized.
