Well, I've recently had to play "musical scopes" due to a gravity check (crash! yep, gravity still works) on my varmint rifle. 3-9 X 44 got pulled off my .308 and mounted n my .223 since deer isn't in season and varmints are.
So now, I'm looking to replace the scope on my .308. While a whiz-bang scope with all the bells and whistles would be nice, I A) can't buy one without giving up food and electricity for a month and B) am not going to shoot deer beyond about 400 yards much anyway.
1) So the scope I'm looking for will be between 3 or 4 on the low end, even a really good fixed 4X would be acceptable.
2) Anything larger than a 44mm objective won't fit on my rifle without buying higher rings, which I don't want to do.
3) Dusk and dawn are primary shooting times in the woods, so light transmission is a good thing.
4) Rangefinding reticles aren't really necessary, but repeatable clicks are. I don't want to click off on a deer at 400 with a 15mph crosswind and not be able to get back to zero at 300 with no wind.
The stickies at the top seemed to deal with long range shooting and tactical scopes, I hope someone can give me a point in the right direction. I'm been sorta happy with Simmons and Bushnell in the past, but they are somewhat lacking in the repeatability department. I wouldn't mind spending around $300, give or take.
Thanks.
