I'm looking for a new scope for my Ruger 10/22. The only one I know anything about is the Leupold VX-I 2-7x28mm Rimfire. I would like a good yet inexpensive scope (oxymoron?) and am looking for opinions?

I'm posting so I can find this again easy. I want a good 3x9 scope for my 10/22 also. My wife and I attended an appleseed shoot yesterday useing tech sites and found our eyesight is just too bad to use iron sites. I only scored 149. My wife did even worse. We need a scope.

I bought a BSA Sweet .22LR, with target turrets for 36, 38 and 40 grain .22LRs. It is 3-9, and has AO. They sell for $89.00 at Dunhams, but I got 20% off. The adjustments on mine are quite precise, unlike my 36X BSA. The glass is nice and clear. Good deal.

The proper application of these scopes is to set the zero at 50 yards, and then the turrets are marked out to 175 yards.

cabelas pine ridge scopes are decent for the price. if you have the money buy a leupold rimfire.

Depends HIGHLY (entirely) upon the USE contemplated and BUDGET.. is this a hunter or a fun range gun? What's the buget? Willing to buy used, or new only?

2 choices:
Weaver 3-9x32 with manual focus $200+
Bushnell 3-9x32 without manual focus $49.00

I own both. The weaver is nice for 100 yard precise shooting, the Bushnell is nice for any plinking and 50 yard precise shooting. IIWY, I'd buy the bushnell.

Galen;

There are several scopes that'll work & work well on a 10/22. But, as was asked, what's the proposed use & budget?

I shoot a lot of .22 rimfire & have many rifles in that caliber. But the scopes on them vary widely, dependant on the gun's purpose. Prices range from the 100 dollar range to several hundreds of dollars. I don't think anything much under a C-note is worth having, but I know there are folks who'll disagree.

The Sightron 3-9X rimfire that's on one of my 10/22's is a decent scope & available these days for about that 100 dollar mark. The Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20X is in the same price range, but if paper punching isn't your main purpose, I'd avoid it for field work.

I have bought 4 of the Nikon Pro Staff scopes and think they are the best scope for the money there is available.

I have 2 of the 4Xs, one on a 10/22, the second 4x on a Marlin model 75c, a 2x7 on a 22Mag and a 3x9 on my 7x57 Mauser 98. The 4x has a pre set 50 yard paralax, the 2x7 has a 75 yard paralax and the 3x9 is set for 100 yards.

The 4xs cost $100.00 and come with rings. The 2x7 cost $130.00 and the 3x9 was $160.00.

On rimfire central the Mueller is mentioned quite a bit by those posters. I think its $130 and is a much larger and heavier scope than the Nikons but seems like everyone there likes it.

I think the Cabelas Pine Ridge is a Tasco scope. I put a 4x on a 45/70 and it was broke by the time i fired 15 rounds.

Wow, thanks all. I'll be looking into each of these.

PremiumSauces, my primary use is for target practice / gun range. I am planing on shooting primarily 50 and 100 yard paper target. My budget is about $150. And I am willing to buy used.

Sorry I would have added this info earlier.

Now we're getting somewhere: 50-100 targets, $150 used.

Hmmmm....

If you can find this one used within your budget, that'd do it (Bushnell Elite 3200): http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=4552

This one is a good choice that'd be more likely to be under $150 used (Nikon Buckmaster): http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=3610

Here's another one that might come in around there used (Weaver V series) http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=4578

Those would be my top 3 choices with that criteria. Check Ebay for used. But here's one you can get new for $143, and it's pretty decent (Millett Buck Gold):

Bottom line, you want higher power for targets/fun, than 2-7. I'd go bare minimum of 3-9, but preferably much higher.

BSA Sweet 22, 3-9X40MM AO

The product code on the end of the box is: 31618 10972.

I quite happy with the straight 4X32 Bushnells I got at Gander Mountain for about $40.00 each. I've got three of them on a Remington 597, and two 10/22's. They work well for what I do which is squirrel hunting and some plinking. I've also got a 4x28 Simmons on another 10/22 that I like a lot. I don't know how much it cost, it was on the (used) rifle when I got it.

Shoot, I had a 3x7x20 BSA that worked just fine for what I used it for. Cost about $16.00 at Wally World. I've still got it, I just thought the bigger scopes looked better.

Galen;

Now that we know what you want to do with the gun, I'll give you some ideas.

1. The Simmons I mentioned before.
2. A Bushnell Legend 5-15X A/O mil-dot.
3. Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10X mil-dot.

The Elite will have the best resolution of the 3 & should be available new for about $180. Used, it should be within your budget. Same price(s) for the Legend. The Simmons really is a bargain, but is also very much niche glass.

I have found the Weaver rimfire 2.5-7x and 3-9x AO to be quite good. I think they are as good as the Leupold 2-7x rimfire. I own both of the Weavers.

As mentioned above, the Mueller APV 4.5-14x is a adjustable focus scope designed for small caliber rifles. It is quite popular, but it is a big scope. Cost is about $120 and can be purchased at many of the online sites. I just bought one and ordered rings for it this week. Planning on putting it on my CZ452 Varmint. Weaver's sit on a TC R-55 and a Remington 547. Actually have not mounted the 3-9x AO on the Remington as of yet. Probably going to purchase another one for the Weatherby.

Yes, get the bushnell elite 3200 on eBay, it's within your budget and really supposed to be a great scope. Chuckhawks rates it well above the nikon prostaff.
