I'm about to purchase a Leupold VX-I 2-7X33 Part# 53743. Leupold's website states: "Retailing for less than $200.00, the economically priced VX-1........"
Local dealer, which BTW, I prefer to do business with, has this scope for $220.00. Is he way over inflating his prices, or should I just shut up and pay his price? I printed out the website to take in there and "discuss" his price with him, but I don't want to "urinate in my Wheeties" if you know what I mean.
BTW, I can mail order it for $190 with free shipping.

Locally it is $220 plus $12 sales tax. $42 less for mail order. But like I said, I like supporting my local dealer, but I don't want to be taken advantage of.
What would you do?

offer him less than he's asking. most gunshops expect that every customer is going to ask for a discount, so they mark their stuff up a little more than usual to compensate for it.

leupold participates in m.a.p. pricing, so whatever you find it priced at in one place, it will be priced at in most other places, too.

if he's asking $220, offer him $175, and go from there. he'll likely tell you he can't do any better than 200, at which you say 200-even out the door (after tax).

Yea, I guess I could do that. I did talk him down on the Marlin it is going on. They wanted $435 and I got it out the door for $404 ( I wanted it for $400 OTD, but I'm willing to comprimise)
