I'm thinking that if I can lose 30lbs I will treat my self to a scope for the Mark III.

I know next to nothing about handgun scopes. Where can I find some "Handgun Scopes 101" info without getting confused by manufacturers' spin that their scope is the greatest ever.

I'm just looking to improve my 25yard bullseye shooting. Quality, yes. Top-level, competition stuff, probably out of my price range. :)

Pistol Scopes

I have a Bushnell 3200 pistol scope for my Ruger Mark III Competiton. Works well, more accurate than me, and about $190. The Mark III comes with a Weaver Mount, but I opted for adding a Ruger Mount at $27.50. Then, of course, I had to add $80 Ruger Rings. Currently, I prefer to shoot with the excellent v-notch adjustable sights that came standard on the Mark III. I also reinstalled the Weaver mount for when I want to shoot with my Bushnell Trophy Red-Dot. Confusing? Ruger open sights are excellent target sights, and at fifty feet, I tear the centers out of 3" targets with 1" bullseyes. Since I'm a rifleman and not a pistolero (my Mark III is primarily a Rattlesnake deterrent), I like using at close-range CCI Velocitors for snake-proofing my body. CCI Velocitors never mis-fired to date. Shooting a deadly snake at more than 15 feet isn't defending myself. Rattlers have every right to exist at more than 15 feet from me. Cliffy

i have a bushnell 2-6x32mm handgun scope on my 629. I didnt know anything about scopes either but a local gun shop offered the scope to me on a special order for $40 less than what basspro shops wanted for it (i think they missed the price). Mount, rings, scope and all was around $200. Works pretty well overall. They ordered the wrong damn finish but for the price I can't complain really.
