Springfield/Savage/Stevens 20ga SxS, I think from the late 70's. Belonged to a retired college professor from Lebanon Valley College here in central PA. It's got 28" barrels with 3" chambers. IC and Mod choke, perfect for some sporting clays! The gun is in very good condition. This was a pedestrian grade shotgun evidenced by the cheaper birch wood stock and forearm. On the other hand, the steel and case color hardening are superb. The bores are spotless.

With all the shotguns I've owned, this is my very first SxS, I think!

Anyway, I'm heading off for VA this Thursday and will take it along with me. There's a group of retired Navy guys that shoot vintage guns at the Oceana Naval Air Station trap and skeet range. Good place to try it out...

Not quite a "vintage" gun but still a nice score. Walnut is easily found for these if you want to dress it up. You also might want to pattern it before hitting the clays.

With this and the 1100 I say you are doing quite well Sir! Good pics again as well!

I stoled the thing for $225! It stays as is. I'll shoot the 5 stand this Friday and see what happens. Should be fun, hopefully I'll break a few!! :)

Very nice deal......I have the Savage/Fox BSE in 20 - only lament is 26" barrels, not 28 - it is heavier than my S&W SxS, but it is still a serviceable gun

thank you sir! I'm an avid sporting clays shooter. Been doing it regularly since 92. My go too guns are four O/U's, two Brownings, an SKB and a Rizzini. But, my all-time favorite shotgun is the Remington 1100!! It's a love affair that started back in the 70's and still continues today...

Savage/Fox are great guns! I'm hot on the trail of a beautiful 50's Stevens 5100 20 bore. Should know something by the end of the week...

I've owned 2 of the Stevens 511's, one manufactured in the early '60's, and the other in the mid '70's, both were 12 ga, 26", mod and full, and were of excellent quality nothing fancy just a good reliable double gun.

You got a nice peice there don't trade it off like I did mine.

EMC45, here's what I believe to be the difference. The 311 naturally predated the 511. Mechanically they are pretty much the same. The 311 though came with much nicer wood. Walnut as opposed to the cheaply finished birch found on the 511. On the positive side of the 511, it shoots both 2-3/4 and 3 inch shells. There were so many variations of the Savage/Stevens shotguns, you would need a calculator to keep track...

Very nice. A few years ago I scored on your gun's ancestor, a Stevens 5100 in 20 gauge also....when they made a different size frame for each gauge. Mine is choked "open" and "opener"....shoots nice on the skeet field and in the rabbit mazes. Only problem I have with it is remembering to change triggers for the second shot.

Great doubles...I have both a 12 311E,and 20 311H...Both shoot and feel great...both in great shape and paid next to dirt prices for both..IMHO,newer doubles that shoot this good would cost you 5 times as much...they are definitely keepers...Love me some old doubles...

Touché - the old American standard SxS shall live forever! That's a great looking pair of shotguns. So much history, too bad they can't speak...

A Stevens SxS 20 was my second shotgun. Never missed a beat, but I got hooked on the 12 gauge for ducks, shooting a borrowed Stevens SxS just like mine. They didn't handle like a Bernadelli, but they were well made and worked very well. I tried a couple more guns looking for nirvana, and then in 1963, I found it. The 1100 arrived. I have had a lot of shotguns since, but I still have that 1100, and still love it best
