Just got back from the Unit 1 turkey hunt and boy was it a blast. Birds weren't talking too much but I seen hundreds of elk and around 40 deer. Also, found quite a lot of birds but the gobblers would only talk back when roosted in the mornings. Once they hit the ground they clammed up.
Did score a Jake in the last hour of our hunt today. Planned on getting back to camp around 10 today so we could get back to Tucson at a respectable time. On the way back from off of Rd 68 we seen 2 Jakes crossing the road. I jumped out, ran around a ridge and got ahead of them. Took down the bigger of the two. The other one ran back towards the road and my buddy bagged him. All in all it was a great trip. The one I got had a 5" beard and I don't know the weight. I've taken Easterns before but not a Marriam's. Here's a pic of the bugger.
My glasses reflected the sun and it looks like I got some kind of wierd eyes going

We were all over the lower half of Unit 1, caught some nice trout and froze my butt off. Temp was 26 degrees at 0500 in the morning. That's cold for us Arizonians
