I worked in the steel industry until very recently and I'm sure we all see that ammo prices have gone up.

Sad to say - but many of our domestic and Canadian Steel Mills have announed price increases through March if not farther. Most of our scrap is being sold overseas right now because of the dollar and everything else going on. We're not seeing any cheap steal in the US - Imports are down because they are just making too much money in Europe....

So I think we are likely to see ammo prices continuing to inch upward over the next month or two.

Reminds me of a thread from a year or so ago that discussed buying ammunition as an investment. I wonder if anyone actually did that. I've got some boxes that I was thinking of selling, but I may hang on to them for a little while longer...

All scrap involved in the manufacture of ammunition has been going up for the past several years as demand has increased and ammunition and component prices follow right along.

How much of the price increase is actually due to things like this and not people marking it up more and using this as an excuse?

I bought a box of .45GAP from a local gun shop and the price was $30. It's usually $21. The lady behind the counter ringing me up said that ammo went up due to lead prices increasing and gas prices going up and Democrats trying to take away our guns.

I told her the only thing that went up was her markup. I know for a fact that her price of ammo hasn't gone up in 6 months because my buddy down the road who usually orders me ammo uses the same supplier as them and the suppliers price hasn't gone up in 6 months.

One note: with the election coming up, and the dems in control of congress, most AKs\high caps\ammo will continue to rise. I've been watching the price of drum mags on gunbroker and a few other places, people are litteraly selling them stating "buy it now before it gets banned", in result the prices have doubled since last year. I'm not sure how much this will effect ammo, but if anyone's considering buying high caps or AK\ARs, i would stock up now :)

and of course, anytime a retailer catches wind of raw material increases they can use it as an excuse to jack up their margins even further. there are always a lot of factors but the worst ones tend to be the human involvement....

If only the state could intervene and set prices to avoid that terrible human involvement. Those dealers are no good, raising their prices to what they think people will pay. Unfortunately, those people have no choice buy to keep paying those prices.

If you mean raise their prices in anticipation of an increase in the price to replace the item on the shelf then yeah, retailers will do that, if they want to stay in business.

I called my Federal Distributor Tueday to get a ETA on my back order from July. While on the phone I asked her to send me the new price schedule from the January price increase.

She warned me that the prices were only good until June because there would be aniother increase.
