Have started the process of trying to locate a mounting plate for possibly changing my rear iron target sight for a Leupold Delta Point Pro red dot. Have been contacting various mfgs and dealers like Springfield Armory, Leupold, and still waiting to hear from EGW Guns, and Brownells. Springfield Armory provided the rear sight cut for me based on my serial # and they stated it is an LPA cut. (What does LPA stand for?). Leupold pointed me at EWG Guns for a possible solution and a few minutes ago I did receive a reply from them that their Delta Point Pro LPA Sight Mount product # 49413 would work. They said to ask to include the 4 pack shims, at no charge, because at times the Leupold DP Pro red dot can be a little lose (that makes me a little nervous) with their mount and may need shimming. Have not heard from Brownells as yet. One thing’s for sure I don’t want, and won’t make a spit and baling wire type change to this SA beauty. So trying to be very careful about any change.

I love the SA RO Elite Target and am on one foot and another about changing anything except I believe these more mature eyes, in my eighties now, would benefit from a quality red dot for up close and quick personal work……. I am considering an alternate plan which would be a combination of the Sig Saur P320-M17 with the Leupold DP Pro for the sight system. That puts a bit of a twist in my knickers because of more than doubling the expense. o_O

Anyway, would really appreciate input from you all, especially about the modification to SA RO Elite Target. (Has anyone gone there with their 1911 style pistol or their SA RO Elite Target?)

Really enjoy this group and how you all make one feel at home and for your knowledge and more important wisdom.

P.S. If I feel assured that the Delta Point Pro will mount up properly I’m leaning toward the 7.5 MOA Inscribed Delta reticle.

P.P.S.
I what to thank the manufactures and dealers for their help and steering me with straight information.

You may find that for quick work a miniature red dot sight is slower initially. Your presentation to target has to be just about perfect for the dot to appear in the window, larger windows do help so the Delta Point will be one of the more forgiving options where slide mounted red dot sights are concerned.

With practice the dot will appear consistently but you’re going to have to put the work in to make your grip, and press out to the target consistent.

If you know anyone shooting a pistol with a red dot sight it might be worth trying before you buy. If you find that you like it, then by all means go forward with the project.

If you’re unable to locate a dovetail mount for the RDS you might consider having a machinist gun smith mill your slide for a direct mount. The advantages are a more durable mount that helps the optic live longer (supported on both ends by the machined pocket taking some stress off the mounting screws), and a lower optic mounting that allows you to use tall iron sights through the optic. Also for many shooters with a lot of time on iron sights, a lower optic mounting helps with finding the dot by getting the dot down where you’re used to aligning the pistol to pick up your iron sights.
