Does anyone have a recomendation for a revolver gunsmith in the Seattle/Tacoma area who does a good job on j-frame action/trigger work?

I don't want to just replace the springs with lighter ones. But I would like to have a job that will lighten things up as much as possible - at least in perception.

My S&W 340 M&P is my one and only gun. They have a hard trigger and are difficult to shoot well as most who have had one know. (Yes - I have dry fired it several thousand times.)

I want to maximize the it's shootability without compromising it's dependability as a full-time carry gun.

Thanks!

If you find him/her...let me know please. I live in Olympia, WA and have not found anybody that worked on triggers. I had to send my revovler out to Gemini Customs in Kentucky for real work.

thanx,

Dawg

We'll see what kind of other responses I may get here over the week end. But in all likelihood I'll go in to see him this next week on Monday.

They did say that he knows his stuff concerning S&W's though.

He was too busy to talk to me himself when I called his shop. But the co-worker said that I'd probably have to come in to talk about various details concerning what would be done etc.

She did ask for a general response from him (as he continued what he was working on). A general price of around $150 was given to me over the phone. Again, I don't know what that would include.

I'll post again Monday P.M. if I end up going in to let you know what all work he recommend and does. I'll give you the location then.

This kind of thing is new to me. This is, as I said, my only gun. I want it dependable for carry - whatever is done.

After he feels the trigger "as is" - he may well tell me that it wouldn't get much better.

We'll see. I'm hoping for some other recommendations so I will be able to get a "second opinion".

This carry gun is important to me. I depend on it.

Are you talking about the gunsmith I suggested?

Dan let me feel the trigger pull on the J-frame he had done and it was spectacular. He had the hammer bobbed as well.

Mainsail -

Yes!

That's the guy.

Good to hear that.

I'm not sure how "spectacular" a j-frame trigger can feel. This is my only gun. The out of the box trigger is certainly not spectacular and even after a few thousand clicks it leaves much to be desired.

Now I'm getting excited!

I'll see him Monday no matter what.

I'll post again Monday P.M. to let you know how it went and to give the location/phone number etc. to others who may desire it.

Nice to find someone in town. I'd probably never send my gun away because of the shipping and for other reasons.

It would be nice to get another opinion/bid etc. though.

Oops!

I just found out that he wont be able to see me til Tuesday afternoon. He's closed Mondays.

I did get this reply on another forum though.

"Go to the "Marksman" in Pullallup, I think on Canyon right off the freeway...10 minutes from Tacoma. I believe Bruce and his wife are smiths and instructors.

Wonderful people and I've had expert repairs done very reasonably there."

I may call them to talk to them this weekend.

I'll keep posting in case anyone is interested.

Made my choice!

I just turned my 340 over to:

[email protected]

He came very highly recommended by some guys over at the Smith and Wesson forum. He lives very near me here in Kent, Washington. He really seemed to know his stuff and didn't mind spending time with me to answer any questions first.

Very helpful and he could start on the gun very quickly.

I'll file a report in a couple of weeks when I get it back. The other guy recommended by Mary's guns is:

"Bill"
4040 South Tyler
Unit 1-A&B
Tacoma, Washington 98409
253-531-2930

Although he came highly recommended by Mary, he seemed awfully busy.

You make your choice and you take your chances I guess.

Thanks for all the help.

I'll post results.

I'm too late here as you already made the move, but I'm gonna throw in my .02 for anyone else looking for a local guy.

The best, by far, is Carl at Federal Way Discount Guns. He is just awesome. He is very busy so expect to leave your gun for awhile, but the results are well worth it.
Stop by the store to check out some of the 1911 work he does. Some of the guys who work there carry guns he has built. I've personally tried a couple revolvers he did and all I can say is they were GREAT.

Another late vote for Carl at Federal Way Discount Guns. All that have dealt with that I know of speak in very high regards of him.

The guy next to Mary's is very busy as there aren't many other choices in Pierce County, and he is supposedly very good. I know from personal experience that he will give you the straight dope and not try to get you to spend the money you were prepared to spend just to line his pockets.
