Security Six

Gota agree, I used the same loads in mine as I used in my 28 smith, tough old gun. I re-qualified with it other day. It has had countless loads of full house 357s through it

Just posted in another thread - the original Six-series prototype was tested at Ruger with 10,000 rounds of .357 158gr +P+, and had NO issues afterwards. Ruger has documentation of this on file, and a neat Gun Digest special book on Ruger products has an image of the original Six series sitting on said certificate.

In short, go for it.

Reminds me of a story I heard when the Security Six first came out. Supposedly Bill Ruger assembled a group of gun writers to show them how strong the new Security Six was. He had a solid barrel blank threaded into a frame which was secured in a gun vise. They proceeded to fire six proof loads, removed the barrel blank, replaced it with a regular barrel and sent six more proof loads down range. They then thoroughly checked the frame over for any damage or change in specifications and found none; the gun functioned perfectly. Don't know how true the story is but having owned quite a few Security/Service/Speed Sixes I can certainly attest to their strength and durability.

I don't think you can hurt a Ruger Security/Service Six with any factory ammo (in the chambered caliber!) These revolvers are regarded as having been way overbuilt, the "tanks" of service revolvers.

I had a GP100 once and it was probably just a bad not typical of other GP's but it had the most horrid DA trigger I had ever encountered. It would lock up half way through the pull and then I would have to jerk it through. I should have sent it back to Ruger but my friend wanted a heavy duty woods gun and didn't care about the trigger pull. I traded him for his S&W 66. I then picked up the Security Six at an estate sale.

The Security Six has a trigger like the S&W, very smooth. I've always thought the Sec Six was a stronger revolver than the Smith K frame so why did Ruger discontinue it in favor of the GP? The way most of us shoot how much better does the GP actually hold together compared to the Sec Six?
